LGBTQ+ Issues for the ADR Practitioner: Awareness, Etiquette & Best Practices
Although efforts have been made in recent years to advance equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA) individuals, there are still many instances where LGBTQ+ people find themselves excluded and uncomfortable in a variety of settings. Session attendees will:
Presenter: Tara B. Taylor, MPA - Tara Taylor is the Director of Education & Outreach for the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights where she also previously served as the Mediation Program Director for 12 years. Tara is also the Co-Founder & Co-Coordinator for the Maryland Equity & Inclusion Leadership Program, a collaborative leadership development project of the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights and the University of Baltimore Schaefer Center for Public Policy. Tara is the Co-chair of the Maryland Coalition Opposed to Violence & Extremism (COVE) and is a past-Chair of both the Maryland Program for Mediator Excellence (MPME) Council and the MPME Alternative Dispute Resolution Program Managers Statewide Coalition. She is an adjunct faculty member for the Conflict Management & Negotiations graduate program in the College of Public Affairs at the University of Baltimore and currently serves as a mediator for the Maryland State Government Shared Neutrals Program and her local county community mediation program. Tara is passionate about helping individuals and communities learn to have more meaningful, productive conversations across their differences.
A Certificate for 2-Hours of ADR related activities will be provided to attendees.
MCDR quarterly meetings are open to everyone without charge.
Membership is not required.

MCDR is the oldest membership-based organization in Maryland dedicated to promoting the use of mediation and supporting
the mediation profession. We have a proud history of successfully advocating for allowing multiple professions to practice mediation,
halting attempts to restrict the practice some fifteen years ago. MCDR is the first organization to establish performance based criteria
now in use as a national model, part of an ongoing dialogue on quality assurance and mediator credentials.
